What is a Work for Hire

Caution – If multiple authors are contributing to a work and a single person or entity desires to own the collective work then the contributor(s) must transfer their rights to the single person or entity via an assignment/work-for-hire agreement. Otherwise, each contributor is owed a ratable share of the profits realized from use or sale of the work. Plan check boxesExamples, author writes a manuscript and asks someone to edit the manuscript. Or creator creates a graphic and ask a graphic artist to clean it up or finalize the graphic. Note, these agreements are very difficult to get signed after the contribution to your work has been made. Therefore, always begin every negotiation for assistance with your work with an understanding between the parties that any contribution made under your direction is to be assigned to and owned solely by you.

$399 US Copyright Attorney fee for the preparation of an Assignment/Work-For-Hire agreement for your use with one or more third-parties contributing to your work.

Plus a $95 government-filing fee to the US Copyright Office to record (one) returned signed and notarized Assignment/Work-For-Hire agreement.
